Thadlaskein Lake, on the road between Shillong and Jowai, is a calm lake surrounded by pine trees and gentle hills. Local legend links it to U Sajar Nangli, a Jaintia chieftain whose followers are said to have dug it.
Today it is a quiet picnic spot with boating and walking paths around the shore, and it is rarely crowded, which is its main appeal.
Stop here on the way to Jowai, Nartiang or Krang Suri.
