Updated September 2026By Shayeed Hussain, Shillong10 places

Cherrapunji — officially Sohra — sits on the edge of a plateau that drops away towards the plains of Bangladesh, and that dramatic geography gives it more waterfalls, caves and viewpoints per kilometre than anywhere else in Meghalaya. Here are the best Cherrapunji tourist places, from Nokhalikha Falls to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge.

How to plan Cherrapunji sightseeing

Give Cherrapunji two nights. Spend one day on the waterfall and cave circuit — Mawkdok valley on the way in, then Nokhalikha, Seven Sister Falls, Mawsmai Cave and Arwah Cave — and a second day on the Nongriat root bridge trek, or on the quieter Weisadong and Dainthlen falls.

Cherrapunji is about 54 km, or two hours, from Shillong. The monsoon is spectacular here but visibility can drop to nothing, so read our best time to visit guide first.
