Krang Suri Falls in the West Jaintia Hills is the one waterfall in Meghalaya you go to swim in rather than just photograph. A broad curtain of water drops into a deep pool whose colour shifts between turquoise and emerald depending on the light and the season. Life jackets are available at the site and the swimming area is supervised.
The approach is a well-maintained stepped path of about 15 to 20 minutes from the parking area, through forest and past smaller cascades, ending at a viewing platform above the pool with steps down to the water. There are changing rooms, a small canteen and railed walkways — it is one of the better-managed community tourism sites in the state, run by the local village council.
It sits near Jowai, so it pairs naturally with a Jaintia Hills day: Krang Suri, the Nartiang monoliths and Thadlaskein lake, or a longer run down to Dawki and Shnongpdeng on the Umngot river.
