The Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures in Mawlai, Shillong, is one of the largest museums of its kind in Asia. Across seven floors, its galleries cover the tribes and cultures of the North Eastern states — clothing, weapons, musical instruments, basketry, religion and daily life — through artefacts, dioramas and multimedia displays.
The rooftop skywalk gives a panoramic view over Shillong.
It is an excellent rainy-day option and the best introduction to the region's cultural diversity before you travel further.
