At close to 2,000 metres, Shillong Peak is the highest point in the area and offers a sweeping view over Shillong and the Khasi Hills. It lies within an Indian Air Force establishment, which is why there is a security check at the entrance.
The viewpoint has a platform with telescopes, and stalls where visitors can dress in traditional Khasi attire for photographs. On clear days the view is superb; when cloud rolls in it can disappear entirely.
Access has been restricted at times for security reasons, so check before you go.
